Good afternoon, I'm Melissa Long here at the cnn center in Atlanta with a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

O.J. Simpson is scheduled to appear at a Las Vegas courtroom tomorrow to be formally charged with robbery, assault and other felony counts. His attorney plans to ask Simpson be let out on bail. Another man has been released, excuse me, let me correct that, arrested in this case. Meantime, this man Clarence Stewart faces 6 criminal counts including robbery and assault. He is free on bond. Police alleged Simpson, Stewart and Walter Alexander robbed a sports memorabilia auctioneer at gunpoint in a Vegas hotel room last week. Simpson claims he went to the room so he could get back items that had been stolen from him.

Senator Larry Craig showed up at Capitol Hill this morning, the first time since details of his sex scandal went public. The Idaho Republican was arrested in June when an undercover police officer said that Craig tried to solicit sex in an airport men's bathroom. Craig pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct charges in August but has filed papers to withdraw that plea. The ACLU is now backing Craig, saying that stings like the one ending in Craig's arrest can trap innocent people.

Pressure is mounting on a Louisiana prosecutor to let Mychal Bell out of jail. Bell is the so-called "Jena 6",one of the members of the so-called Jena 6, and the teenager is facing criminal charges in a high school turf fight. His attorney has filed a motion to get Bell released from prison, or at least moved to a juvenile facility. Meantime, the District Attorney plans an appeal to the state Supreme Court. The Reverend Jesse Jackson says he will ask congressional leaders to intervene.

Iraq's Council of Ministers has joined the Interior Ministry in calling for US security firm Blackwater to stop operations in Iraq. A government spokesperson tells cnn a preliminary report finds Blackwater did use excessive force Sunday in Baghdad. That's when at least 8 civilians were killed in a shootout involving Blackwater personnel. Blackwater officials say their contractors acted lawfully and appropriately in response to a hostile attack.

Dole is recalling thousands of bags of prepared salad. The company says it hasn't received reports of anyone actually getting sick from the contaminated lettuce. But one sample tested positive for E. coli. The recall affects all packages of Hearts Delight Salad Mix with a September 19 Best If Used By Date. It was sold in at least 9 states and also into parts of Canada.
