Good Saturday afternoon, everyone, I'm Creshon Saunders at the cnn.com newsroom in Atlanta. Here's a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.
The US military says one US soldier was killed in a roadside bomb attack in southern Baghdad. 3 other US troops were hurt. It happened this morning during combat operations. The soldier's unit has been involved in targeted raids and clearing operations in that part of the city. More than 3, 800 US military personnel have been killed since the beginning of the war.
President Bush says the United States is not preparing to attack Iran. He made the comment during an interview with Arab Television. Mr. Bush says he is committed to working to resolve the dispute over Iran's nuclear program through diplomacy. Arab media reported Mr. Bush ordered top military officials to prepare for an attack on Iran in January or February. The president called those reports baseless gossip.
This search lasted several days but Philadelphia police now have a suspect in custody. Mustafa Ali is just charged with 2 counts of murder, robbery and other crimes in connection to Thursday's armored car heist. Detectives say tape from a surveillance camera shows Ali looting an ATM. They say he shot and killed two armored guards and injured another while they were servicing that ATM. Police have seized Ali's car. They believe it was used in that heist.
The labor pains continue in Detroit. Last month it was GM, now it's Chrysler. Company executives and negotiators with the United Auto Workers plan plan to talk all weekend to avert a strike. The United Auto Workers Union reached a tentative contract agreement with General Motors last month. But it's unclear whether Chrysler will go along with those plans. Chrysler has a new private ownership that reportedly wants a different kind of deal.
Calendar says fall. But it looks like winter has arrived in California's Sierra Mountains. This is what shock to residents who were digging out of Friday. Take a look at that. One family measured up to 8 inches of snow. It's left even longtime mountain residents amazed that just how much snow fell.

It's enough snow for people to have a little fun but unfortunately the accumulation is not deep enough for ski resorts to open early.
