Hello, I'm Melissa Long at the cnn center here in Atlanta with a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.
We want you to take a look at some surveillance video. It's our first look at Carol Anne Gotbaum's arrest shortly before her death in police custody at Sky Harbor Airport. That's in Phoenix. Authorities released it amid allegations from her family that police manhandled her. It apparently shows her yelling and resisting arrest as officers tried to control her.
A tense standoff in New Hampshire that lasted since January is finally over. Convicted tax evaders Ed and Elaine Brown were arrested last night. They were heavily-armed and claimed they wouldn't be taken alive. But they were arrested peacefully on their front porch. Earlier this year, the couple's power and telephone service was cut off, but they said they got by with generators. The Browns will be serving 63 months in federal prison.
Those former Duke Lacrosse players who were wrongly accused of rape are now making a federal case of their ordeal. They are suing their former prosecutor Mike Nifong, the city of Durham, North Carolina and police who handled the investigation. The suit seeks unspecified damages and changes in the way Durham police investigate criminal cases. It recalled the 3 young men were accused of raping a dancer at a team party. The charges were eventually dropped.
In Spain, 22 members of an outlaw Basque pro-independence party are under arrest. They are accused of aiding the armed separatist group ETA. Spanish authorities have been cracking down on it and supporters after a car bomb killed 2 people at Madrid Airport in December. Both the US and European Union consider ETA as a terrorist group.
The United States top diplomats in Myanmar met with military leaders in Yangon today. The State Department says the Demo(crats), excuse me, the diplomats will urge them to meet with opposition groups and stop the crackdown on demonstrators. United Nations envoy is also briefing the Security Council in an uNPRecedented open session on his recent visit to Myanmar.
