Hi, everyone! I am Asieh Namdar at the cnn. com newsroom in Atlanta. Here's a quick look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.
Firefighters say 29 vehicles were involved in that horrific tunnel fire north of Los Angles. Authorities held a news conference this afternoon and gave reporters details about the incident. They said three bodies pulled from the charred rooms, well, those are two men and a child. Ten other people were hurt in the exploding inferno. That busy stretch of Interstate 5 could be closed for days. Crews are assessing the damage and planning repairs.
Meantime, a cave rescue is underway near Austin, Texas. Three cavers failed to return last night from an outing into one of the area's popular caves. The Austin Fire Department says the cavers, two men and one woman, had told a contact to report their missing if they weren't out within 24 hours. Authorities believe they are still underground.
Today Cuban Television aired a live telephone conversation between Cuban President Fidel Castro and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. The two men talked about the 40th anniversary of the slaying of the revolutionary leader Ernesto "Che" Guevara in Bolivia. Cuban TV also aired a video of the two together during a meeting Saturday. Chavez has visited Castro a number of times since the Cuban leader got sick 14 months ago. Castro has not appeared in public since then, but Cuban State Media has presented several photos and videos of him.
Russians say television reports that President Vladimir Putin has been warned of a possible assassination attempt against him in Iran. Putin's headed to Tehran tomorrow night from Germany. He will be taking part in the summit of countries surrounding the Caspian Sea. The countries are in talks to devide the sea's energy resources.
The head of Blackwater USA says that insurgents were definitely firing at the company's guards during the last month's shooting in Baghdad. But Eric Prince told cnn's late edition it was possible someone from Blackwater (quote) "screwed up in the incident". Iraq accuses the private security firm of deliberately shooting civilians, 17 were wounded. Prince says he expects an FBI investigation to provide many of the answers.
