In South Africa, a former matron at Oprah Winfrey School for girls will be charged with physical abuse and sexual solicitation of students at that school. Now the police superintendent in Johannesburg says that the woman was arrested on Thursday. He says no other school employees are under investigation. The woman will appear in court on Monday. Oprah Winfrey personally selected the 152 girls for the first class when that school opened back in January. They are all straight-A students from underprivileged backgrounds.
State Department officials say now that the US has some proposals for Turkey to stop it from launching an attack into Iraq. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is in Turkey, she's meeting with the Prime Minister. Officials say she will offer a package of measures during the talks. Kurdish rebels have been launching raids from Iraq into Turkey. And Turkey has threatened to respond with a full-scale attack.
Rescue crews and medical teams on the scene now of an overturned garbage truck in Pembroke Pines, Florida. They have pulled back the top of the truck cab to gain access to the driver. And just a short time ago, they did manage to pull the driver out.
It turns out "Dog the Bounty Hunter" was done in by his own son. Apparently Tucker Chapman taped the tirade in which his father Duane Chapman repeatedly used the N-word to describe Tucker's girlfriend. A family lawyer says that Tucker sold that tape to a tabloid for a lot of money. Duane Chapman has apologized for his tirade. Production of his television show has been suspended by the AND network.
You may be seeing more reruns of your favorite television shows. Television and movie writers are set to go on strike anytime now. All they are waiting for is the word from the Writers Guild Board which is meeting today. Guild members want a big share of DVD and internet download royalties. The strike won't affect prime time shows right away. Most studios have enough scripts to last until next year. The first casualties will be late-night talk shows and daytime soap operas.
