Hi, everyone, I'm Asieh Namdar at the cnn. com newsroom in Atlanta. Here is a quick look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.
Protestors inside and outside Pakistan are calling for return to constitutional authority. In London, thousands gathered near the British Prime Minister's office to deliver a petition to Gordon Brown. The petition calls on Britain to use its influence to demand that Pakistan restore democracy and release all political prisoners.
Tens of thousands of students and activists marched again in Venezuela. They hoped to block constitutional changes that would give President Hugo Chavez more power at issue 69 amendments coming up in the December 2nd referendum. If approved, it would let Mr. Chavez run for election indefinitely, suspend civil liberties during states of emergency and censor the media. Chavez has lashed out condemning the opposition for resorting to what he calls fascist violence.
The U. S. has marked a green milestone in the war on terrorists. Six more U. S. troops were ambushed and killed Friday in Afghanistan, making 2007 the deadliest year for U. S. forces there. One hundred servicemen have died in Afghanistan so far.
And wildlife rescue teams are trying to save dozens of seabirds. They've been tarred by the worst oil spill in the San Francisco bay area in nearly 2 decades. Almost 60, 000 gallons of heavy fuel leaked into the bay Wednesday. It happened after a ship struck a tower of the bay bridge. The spill closed more than a dozen beaches. Oil skimmers and shore crews are mopping up the damage.
New York theater fans will have to find some other means of entertainment tonight. Hundreds of Broadway stagehands are on the picket lines in a dispute of a workforce and other staffing issues. Stagehands and theater owners have been negotiating since this summer but haven't seemd to find a common gorund. This is the first Broadway work stoppage since the musicians' strike of 2003. That strike lasted 4 days.
And those are the headlines this hour. For more on these stories and other news of the day, cnn is your source Online , on TV or when you are on the go.
