Hello! And good Monday to you from the cnn Center in Atlanta, I'm Stacey Elgin. Thanks so much for checking in with us. Here's a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.
Florida police are looking for two suspects who they say stole a bag of money from an armored truck security guard. Authorities say the Brinks guard was about to enter a music store when two masked armed men grabbed the cash bag. Police say the suspects struck the guard in the face before the pair took off. It's unclear though how much money was allegedly taken.
From environmental mess to criminal investigation, federal investigators are questioning the crew of the ship, struck the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. The collision caused 58, 000 gallons of oil to spill from the ship into the bay. It's being called the worst oil spill in nearly two decades.
A major environmental emergency is unfolding off the coast of Russia. It's all happening in the Strait of Kerch outside the Black Sea where several ships have either been sunk or grounded by extreme weather. At least 23 sailors who were washed out to sea are still unaccounted for. Powerful storms and 18-foot waves have sunk five ships and grounded five others. Among them is an oil tanker that spilled thousands of gallons of fuel into the water.
Pope Benedict the 16th will make his first visit to the US as a pontiff next year. The church says the visit is planned for next April and will include stops at the White House, Ground Zero in New York and the United Nations. The pope will also celebrate Mass at the new National Stadium in Washington and Yankee Stadium.
Volunteers searching for a missing Chicago area mom are now concentrating on bodies of water before they ice over. Stacy Peterson was last seen by her police officer husband Oct. 28th. Last week, Illinois State Police named him a suspect in her disappearance, but he has not yet been charged. Authorities will also exhume the body of Peterson's third wife who was found dead in a bathtub in 2004. Her death was ruled an accident.
And do be sure to stick with us here at cnn. com 24/7, for news from around the world. And of course, we will have updates right here throughout the day. Thanks for logging on.
