Hi everyone, I'm Asieh Namdar at the cnn.com newsroom in Atlanta. Here's a quick look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

We begin with a disaster in Bangladesh where Cyclone Sidr has now claimed at least 1,700 lives. Rescue teams are working to reach remote villages isolated by the storm. The US military is also sending teams in to help distribute aid.

A fresh report from UN scientists says the Earth's climate is now at a tipping point. The report says global warming is happening so fast, urgent action on a worldwide scale is needed to head off an environmental crisis. The final report by the Nobel Prize-winning panel says the developing world would be the hardest hit and has the fewest resources to cope.

A possible gas leak has prompted the evacuation of part of a terminal at Newark Liberty International Airport. At least 11 people have been treated for symptoms related to the odour. One person was transported to a hospital. Flights that were supposed to arrive for that area have been diverted to another part of the terminal. So far though, no flight schedules are affected.

For the moment, the lights of Broadway goes dark and crews are on strike. But cnn has learned that could all change relatively soon. Sources tell cnn producers and stagehands will meet some time this weekend. They are in dispute over work rules. But they are hoping to resolve it in time for the lucrative holiday season.

Forecasters say strong winds in California could throw up another round of wildfires. The winds are expected to gain strength in the coming week. The military is deploying several aircraft to help firefighters on the ground. It's all happening just weeks after those devastating wildfires burned thousands of acres across the southern part of the state.

And those are the headlines this hour. For more on these stories and other news of the day, cnn is your source online, on TV or when you are on the go.
