Presidential candidates now focusing on New Hampshire for Tuesday's primary after wrapping up last night's Iowa caucuses. The first test in the presidential nomination race delivered two winners that some people thought were surprises. A record turnout among Democrats propelled Barack Obama to victory in the Iowa caucuses and Mike Huckabee took the top spot among Republicans. Both candidates are now campaigning in the Granite State.
British anti-terror police are in Pakistan to help investigate the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. President Pervez Musharraf asked Britain to send the Scotland Yard team. Bhutto, you may recall, was killed on December 27th but the exact cause of death has still not been specified.
A Texas man is free today after spending 26 years in prison for a rape he didn't commit. Charles Chatman refused to admit to guilt before the parole board three times since his conviction in 1981. He was vindicated when DNA testing proved him innocent. A judge released Chatman yesterday. He is the 15th inmate from Dallas County to be cleared by DNA test since 2001. That is the most in the nation.
High winds, strong rain, a whole lot of snow, California's Lake Tahoe region finding itself under a rare blizzard warning, pretty much the entire state getting slammed by a ferocious winter storm. Forecasters say the region can expect up to ten feet of snow, wind gust near 150 miles an hour. They expect the extreme weather to last through the weekend.
Striking writers, not too happy with tonight show host Jay Leno back on the air after two months, though he himself is a member of the Writers' Guild, and they say he violated union rules by writing and delivering his own monologues. NBC though, disagrees, saying an agreement between the WGA and the studios allows a person to write and deliver his own material on air. The Union says that applies solely to a performer who is not a guild member.
