Josh Ritter is an American singer-songwriter born in Moscow, Idaho, His style is in the tradition of folk music and ballads - influenced by Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Leonard Cohen, among others - with an emphasis on complex imagery combined with dense lyrics.

The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter is the fifth full-length album by Josh Ritter. According to Ritter: "Lyrically, musically, and in terms of production, it's is the most adventurous record I've made yet and I think when you hear it you're going to be surprised. Seriously, repeatedly, and in a good way."

Josh Ritter 出生在美国爱达荷州, 在听了Bob Dylan和Johnny Cash的经典名曲"Girl From The North Country"后买了自己的第一把吉他. 上大学的时候, 他开始接触到Leonard Cohen和Gilian Welch. JR被迷住了, 放弃了在大学的主修专业神经系统科学, 开始寻找自己的音乐. JR选择了Boston做为梦想的起点地, 因为这里经常有有关民谣的聚会, 大名鼎鼎的Club Passim也是坐落在Boston. 在1999年, JR录制并发行了第一张同名专辑. 但一直到2002年, Golden Age of Radio发行之后,JR才引起了人们的注意. 他在自费的巡演同时销售CD, 提高了知名度的同时也筹集了资金. 之后, Signature Sounds Recordings开始在全国范围内为JR做宣传, 等级为4颗星或5颗星的乐评也开始如潮水般涌来. HBO电视台的连续剧Six Feet Under的片尾曲也是取自这张专辑. 而JR也被邀请在一个介绍爱尔兰的旅游节目上露面.(?) 不久, 他的单曲"Me & Jiggs" 就登上了爱尔兰榜的前40. 在爱尔兰的巡演也非常成功. 此外, 一个叫做Cork的乐队在大大小小的酒吧只演奏JR的歌曲, 以像他致敬. 回到自己的祖国后, 在纽约和波士顿的演出也是场场爆满
