 我们经常强调，排行榜的成绩并不能代表一个艺人真正的实力。有很多艺人，尽管从来没有任何单曲上过排行榜，却仍然能够获得极高的推崇，民谣创作女歌手派蒂．格里芬（Patty Griffin，以下简称PG）就是一个非常好的例子。自从她在1996年发表首张个人专辑以来，始终未能打进“HOT 100”排行，但是她的歌喉与作品的质感，却是没有人能够否定的，她的每一张专辑都获得很高的评价，只是因为隶属于独立品牌，没有大财团无孔不入的宣传， 也没有被国内的代理商引进，所以知道她的人相对的也就少之又少。事实上，尽管她似乎没有多少知名度，有不少著名的歌手或团体都曾经采用她的作品，其中至少 包括了被琳达朗丝黛（Linda Ronstadt）翻唱的“Falling Down”、被“狄克西女子合唱团”（Dixie Chicks）翻唱的“Truth No. 2”和“Top of the World”、先后被“狄克西女子”和杰西卡辛普森（Jessica Simpson）翻唱的“Let Him Fly”、还有贝蒂密勒（Bette Midler）的“Moses”、艾美露哈瑞丝（Emmylou Harris）的“One Big Love”、玛蒂娜（Martina McBride）的“Goodbye”、玛莉翠萍卡本特（Mary Chapin Carpenter）的“Dear Old Friend”、以及“女子救援组”（The Wreckers）的“One More Girl”等等。2007年二月，PG发表第五张个人专辑“Children Running Through”，拿到她出道以来最佳的成绩，在全美流行专辑获得第三十四名，以及独立品牌专辑的亚军，更被推崇为她的创作生涯到目前为止最具有代表性的 杰作。
