作为Puff Daddy最得意的助手，Mase成功的参与了BadBoy公司许多歌手的歌曲。缓慢而轻松的声音，使他非常受听众欢迎。从而使他在还没有推出自己的个人专辑以前就成为了明星。
Mase原名叫Mason Betha，1977年8月27日出生在佛罗里达州东北部的Jacksonville市。在五岁的时候搬家到了Harlem。但是在13岁的时候，由于和一些不良少年经常混在一起，而被送回了佛罗里达。重返纽约是在两年之后，在那时加入了学校篮球队，并开始为篮球队的其他队员说唱以娱乐。他是个不错的篮球运动员，不过慢慢的，HipHop对他越来越重要了。他以Mase Murder的名字加入了一个说唱团体Children of the Corn。这个团体后来由于其中一个成员发生车祸死亡而解散。之后，Mase就开始独自发展并在纽约的一些HipHop俱乐部表演。1996年，他到亚特兰大参加一个音乐讨论会，本来期望认识Jermaine Dupri，却结识了puffy，在听了Mase的说唱之后，Puffy的BadBoy公司立即与Mase签约了。


Mase的初次登场是在Puffy进行混音的112的单曲“Only You”，之后很快的就参与了公司一些歌手的歌曲。其中最为出色的是Puff Daddy的"Can't Nobody Hold Me Down"和"It's All About the Benjamins"以及Notorious B.I.G的"Mo' Money, Mo' Problems"。还参与过Mariah Carey的"Honey"、Brian McKnight的"You Should Be Mine"、Junior M.A.F.I.A的"Young Casanova"、Busta Rhymes的"The Body Rock"。并且在一些Video中也有相当好的表演。Puffy保证了Mase的发行自己的个人专辑的时候，全美国的每个HipHop迷都已经知道了他。

因此，1997年Mase首张专辑《Harlem World》的成功，是在人们意料之中的。刚发行的两周内，就名列Billboard专辑榜首。专辑自然主要是由Puffy制作，并且像许多大制作的HipHop唱片一样，请来了许多知名歌手：Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, DMX, Lil' Kim, Monifah, 112, the L.O.X., Eightball & MJG, Black Rob,和Lil' Cease。Jermaine Dupri也参与了其中“Cheat On You”的制作。有的评论家赞扬Mase独特的说唱风格，也有人因此而批评他，不管怎样，这张专辑还是四次被评为白金唱片。其中最强的单曲“Feels So Good”也排在了流行歌曲榜的前五名。

其间，Mase依旧客串了其他歌手的一些歌曲，像Brandy的"Top of the World"、Puff Daddy的"Lookin' at Me"、Cam'ron的 "Horse and Carriage"、112的Love Me"，并在《Rugrats》原声中与Mya和Blackstreet合作了"Take Me There"。

在1998年四月的时候，Mase因为票记而被告上法庭，而他对次否认。这件事也很快得到了解决。
1998年末，借助首张专辑的成功，Mase以那张专辑的名字命名了他的六人说唱组合“Harlem World”。并在1999年初发行了组合的首张专辑《The Movement》，虽然是由Puff Daddy和Jermaine Dupri联手制作，但是由于组合中的其他歌手并没有显著特色，从而使得这张专辑反映平平。

人们期待着Mase即将在99年夏天发行第二张个人专辑《Double Up》的时候，他却在专辑完成之后还没发行之前做出了一个让所有人震惊的决定：他宣布要退出音乐界，而去做一名牧师。随后，他虽然为了《Double Up》的销售而参加了见面会，却谢绝了所有关于专辑发行的现场表演。或许是专辑承袭了以前的风格而没有更多的进步，或许是听众开始对Mase的音乐失去了兴趣，《Double Up》只排在了第11名，而且销量也较前一张下降了许多。
从这一年以后，Mase开始广泛的接触市内的青少年，为他们进行演讲。成为了一名出色的巡回牧师。并且出版了名为《Revelations: There's a Light After the Lime》
