Alanis Morissette 生长于加拿大的渥太华。在童年时即开始弹钢琴和写歌。在十岁时，她参加了儿童电视节目 You Can't Do That 的演出。并用自己挣来的钱录制了自己的第一首单曲"Fate Stay with Me"。在结束了电视剧的演出后，她将全部的精力投入到了歌唱事业。在1991年，她搬到多伦多并推出了首张专辑 Alanis。
