Idioms: movers and shakers

Meaning: A person who wields power and influence in a particular activity or field;

意为“有影响力的人；实力派”等等。

Usage note: At first the two nouns referred specifically to God, alluding to the belief that a divine force was responsible for all events. The current usage refers only to human beings.

Example:

1. He emphasizes the importance of hanging out with the movers and shakers of the art world.
他强调和艺术圈一呼四应的人物打成一片的重要性。

2. Historically, of course, there have always been "Movers and Shakers" in any and all societies.
