在美国好莱坞，每个年轻演员都盼望哪一天能够一举成名。实现这一梦想的途径之一，就是在一个大明星突然生病的时候，被邀请去替代那位大明星来拍电影。“代替别人”就是我们今天要讲的习惯用语 fill the shoes.

Idiom：fill the shoes

Meaning: to take the place of some other person and do that person's work satisfactorily. (As if you were wearing the other person's shoes.)
很好地顶替；令人满意地替代

Example:
1. But despite wearing Diana's ring, Kate will be free to carve her own future, William said: No one's trying to fill my mother's shoes.
尽管带着戴安娜的戒指，米德尔顿仍可以自由地做她自己。威廉王子说，没有人试图取代我母亲的位置。

2. Nobody else wants to work as hard as Helen did without a lot higher salary. That's why the boss is having a tough time finding anybody to fill Helen's shoes for the same money.
没有那个人愿意像海伦那样辛勤地工作，可是拿很低的工资。没有人愿意拿同样的工资来接替海伦的工作。这就是为什么老板花了很大的劲还找不到人的原因。
