"Deng Xiaoping Goes to Washington", a documentary film about late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping's official visit to the United States in 1979, has been shown in Chinese theaters.
The film features Deng Xiaoping's activities in the United States, including receptions, meetings with American politicians and TV interviews.
Deng was then the Chinese vice-premier and the historic visit took place shortly after the United States established diplomatic relations with China in January that year. During his visit, Deng Xiaoping demonstrated China's resolve to open to the world and learn from developed countries in science and technology, education and culture.
Director Fu Hongxing said the film is in honor of Deng Xiaoping's contributions to China as well as his influence on generations of Chinese people.
The movie also features interviews with people involved in the historical visit, including former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, Deng's bodyguards and secret service from the White House.

Hong Kong Movie star Jackie Chan has been named Singapore's first celebrity anti-drug ambassador.
Jackie Chan, who has also been China's anti-drug ambassador since 2009, said that when he was young, his father told him to stay away from drugs, gangsters and gambling. He agreed with what his father had said and wanted to share his father's words with young people.

He said young people face so many temptations today and they sometimes want to try something new. But they don't realize drugs are addictive and harmful to both the young and their family.
Talking about his son Jaycee Chen's drug taking, Jackie Chan said he was ashamed and angry, but this made him even more determined to do something to fight against drugs. He maintained that his relationship with Jaycee has not changed, and that he even encourages Jaycee to be an anti-drug ambassador.
