News Plus慢速英语:天津港爆炸事故赔偿工作启动 海峡两岸儒学学者同获孔子文化奖

Authorities in north China's port city of Tianjin said the wheels have been set in motion to secure compensation from the owner of a warehouse for those affected by two fatal blasts at the site on August 12.
More than 120 people remain in hospital, including five who are in a critical or serious condition, while 673 others have been treated and discharged.
One-hundred-and-sixty-five people died in the explosions, while eight others are still missing. Among them, 110 firefighters and policemen were killed during the response operation.
Meanwhile, the blasts damaged 11,000 homes and affected 400 companies.
The compensation process for the affected residents has begun.
The warehouse is owned by Rui Hai Company, which was founded in 2011.
Several company executives and local officials have been arrested.

Two professors from the mainland and Taiwan have won the 2015 Confucius Cultural Award in Qufu, east China's Shandong Province.
Chen Lai is a professor of philosophy and head of the Academy of Chinese learning at Tsinghua University. His specialism is Confucianism, and his outstanding achievements have significant influences at home and abroad.
Tung Chin-yue was once taught by Kong Decheng, a 77th-generation descendant of Confucius. He is an honorary professor of Chinese literature at Taiwan Politics University.
The prize committee described Chen as the "inheritor and interpreter of Chinese culture" and Tung Chin-yue as "the propagator of the Chinese national culture".
The prize was awarded at the 7th World Confucianism Conference held recently in Qufu, the hometown of Confucius. Launched in 2009, the event attracted more than 150 experts and scholars from 15 countries and regions this year.
Confucius was born in 551 BC. His theories of benevolence and courtesy have been a dominant ideology in China for more than 2,000 years.
