A private Chinese biotechnology company plans to mass produce a vaccine against the Ebola virus. The vaccine was developed by Chinese military scientists.
The biotechnology company has started construction of an industry base to produce the vaccine in the northern port city of Tianjin.
Investment in the base totals 2 billion yuan, roughly 317 million U.S. dollars, and construction will be complete by 2018.
The base also provides other vaccines against pneumonia, meningitis and tuberculosis. Annual production will be around 200 million individual vaccine shots.
The Ebola vaccine is based on the 2014 mutant gene type and is in the form of freeze-dried powder. It can remain stable for at least two weeks in temperatures of up to 37 degrees Celsius.
Experts say it is suitable for the tropical climate in West African countries, where the deadly epidemic outbreak has killed more than 11,000 people since last year

A nationwide inspection has found that only 76 percent of China's public swimming pools have water which is up to national quality standards.
China's public health watchdog, the National Health and Family Planning Commission, says the inspection sampled 11,500 public swimming pools, including many in schools. It found that 8,700 met the entire requirement.
Among the 600 pools in schools, 78 percent passed the test.
Water supplies were tested for the total number of bacteria, pH value and opacity, among other factors.
Health authorities have ordered that swimming pools with poor water quality must be improved, and meted out administrative punishments.
There have been no reports of widespread health problems due to poor swimming pool water quality.
