[05:47.37]Philip: Hello, Tom. It's Philip. I waited for a phone call from you but I can't wait any longer.
[05:52.54]Tell me about your first week.
[05:54.24]Tom: Hmmmmmm. It wasn't easy.
[05:56.25]Philip: Wasn't it? Why? What did you have to do?
[05:58.92]Tom: On Monday and Tuesday, I lifted heavy boxes.
[06:02.55]On Wednesday, I put hundreds of bottles and tins and packets on shelves.
[06:08.03]Philip: Was it boring?
[06:08.74]Tom: Yes, very boring. And I dropped a lot of boxes.
[06:12.55]Philip: Did you break anything?
[06:14.01]Tom: Oh, just a few jars of jam and a lot of bottles of tomato juice.
[06:17.91]Philip: Ugh. What a mess, So ,tell me about Thursday:
[06:21.75]Tom: I'm afraid I was two hours late ... and the supervisor was
[06:25.95]really angry. Then I put price labels on bottles and tins and packets. Very confusing.
[06:31.93]Philip: Did you put the right labels on them?
[06:33.95]Tom: Not always. I made one or two mistakes.
[06:37.00]Philip: Only one or two? What did you do on Friday and Saturday?
[06:40.01]Tom: I did't do very much. I was fed up. The supermarket was open until 9 p.m.
[06:45.94]They wanted me to work overtime but I went home at six.
[06:48.78]Philip: I see. Have you still got a job?
[06:51.29]Tom: I don't know. Ihave to see the supervisor tomorrow.
[06:54.48]Philip: Well, you'd better get up early. Good luck!

[07:04.33]1. I hate the stairs. Sometimes the lift isn't working andyou have to use the stairs.
[07:13.26]I can't get up the stairs by myself; it's my back, you see.
[07:17.49]Jane, my friend, lives on the ground floor; that's much easier.
[07:22.53]Nearly every morning I stop there for a cup of tea before I come back up here.
[07:29.64]2. I don't mind living in a tall building. I don't mind the stairs.
[07:35.36]I quite like the exercise. Of course, it's difficult for older people but I don't mind.
[07:40.74]If you live on the top floor, like Mrs. Green, it's not easy.
[07:44.35]And I don't like the ground floor; I don't think it's safe. But I like my place.
[07:49.62]I've got three floors below me and three above, I feel very safe.
[07:54.06]My Mum lives here too, on the ground floor.
[07:59.29]3. Alice comes every morning. Well, nearly every morning.
[08:05.32]She's not young any more, you see, she's seventy-eight next birthday,
[08:09.19]and it's difficult for her to walk up to the top floor.
[08:12.17]I can't go up; I can't move. It's my leg; I've got a bad leg. Carol comes to see me sometimes.
[08:21.88]She lives here too, you know, in another flat.She's my daughter.

[08:34.34]Dictation 1:
[08:38.37]We are going to Scotland for our holiday.
[08:42.73]We are leaving eary on Saturday morning and I hope we will get to York about eleven o'clock.
[08:53.86]We are spending the night in York, then on Sunday we are driving up to Scotland.
[09:06.03]We are going to stay at a lovely littie hotel near a lake.
[09:17.11]Of course we will probably get some rain, but I am sure we will have a fantastic holiday.
[09:28.23]Dictation 2:
[09:31.63]People often ask me for my telephone number.
[09:39.78]But I have not got a telephone, so I tell them to ring me at work.
[09:48.04]Why  don't I have a telephone? I think the telephone is expensive and I prefer to write a letter.
[10:00.65]There aren't many people I want to speak to in the evening and I do not want to speak to anybody at breakfast time.
[10:15.36]When I want to use the telephone in the evening, I can always use the box at the end of the road.
