娱乐英语新闻:Roman Polanski speaks out about his case, first time in 33 years

2010-05-03来源:和谐英语
In a statement released by friends in Paris, Polanski claimed that the decision by a Los Angeles judge to go back on the plea agreement "justified my leaving the United States." He wrote in the first person, "It is true: 33 years ago I pleaded guilty, and I served time at the prison for common law crimes at Chino, not in a VIP prison."

Polanski was arrested by Swiss officials on Sept. 25 in Zurich when he was there to claim his honor at a film festival. He had remained behind the bars before he was put under a house arrest at his ski chalet in Gstaad, a ski resort in the Swiss Alps. The director blamed renewed efforts by L.A.prosecutors that was sparked by a film documentary that he took no part in.

"It drew the ire of Los Angeles authorities, who felt that they had been attacked and decided to request my extradition from Switzerland, a country I have been visiting regularly for over 30 years," the famed director wrote.

Polanski also accused District Attorney Steve Cooley of persecuting him because Cooley "is himself campaigning for election and needs media publicity."

Polanski also accused the District Attorney's office of "trying to serve me on a platter to the media of the world" rather than observing a plea bargain the office agreed to, calling for him to plead guilty in exchange for a sentence of time already served in jail while awaiting trial in 1977 for illicit sexual contact with Samantha Geimer.
