娱乐英语新闻:Gibson, girlfriend continue fight over child custody

BEIJING, July 16 (Xinhuanet) -- Oscar winning actor Mel Gibson and former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva continued fighting over custody of their nine-month-old baby daughter, media reported Thursday.

The two now shares custody of the child.

Lawyers for both parties attended a hearing in a courtroom in Los Angeles. Presented were also detectives and police officers. Some of them were from units investigating child abuse, sexual assault and domestic violence.

Steve Whitmore, spokesman for L.A. sheriff, told People Magazine that tapes of the leaked phone conversations in which the actor allegedly threatened and cursed his former girlfriend were handed over to the detectives.

"The tapes will be analyzed by our detectives. But they are not the central focus of the investigation, they're just part and parcel of it," he said. He also assured that the reliability of the tapes will be verified.

Grigorieva reportedly asked for full custody of the child. Grigorieva, who has a restraining order against Gibson, said in during a fight in January she was struck "more than once" at his Malibu home, broke a tooth of hers, knocked out a veneer, and caused a concussion.

Grigorievahas reportedly received threatening calls in the past two days and worried for the safety of her child. But a source from Gibson claimed the accusation to be" just another premeditated attempt by Oksana to alter the facts."

The "Braveheart" actor, 54, began dating Grigorieva, 40 in the summer of 2009, shortly after his divorce from Robyn Gibson, with whom he had been married for 28 years. Gibson and Grigorieva broke up in reportedly friendly terms in April this year.
