LOS ANGLES, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- In the wake since the drama "The Social Network" was awarded with four awards at the National Board of Review earlier in the month, the Columbia Pictures' release was once again named best picture of the year by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association(LAFCA) on Sunday.

The film, which deals with the founding of the internet social networking website Facebook and the resulting lawsuits, beat out runner-up "Carlos," a French epic length treatment of the life and times of "Carlos the Jackal," to prevail at the award event.

The film also walked away with best director, best screenplay and best music score.

Actors (L-R) Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake, Max Minghella and Andrew Garfield pose backstage after accepting the Hollywood Ensemble Cast Award for the movie "The Social Network" at the 14th Annual Hollywood Awards Gala in Beverly Hills, California October 25, 2010.

However, the film's hero, Colin Firth, did not win the best actor for his portrayal in "The Social Network." He was the choice for his role as King George VI in "The King's Speech." Runner-up for the prize is Edgar Ramirez for "Carlos."

South Korean actress Kim Hye-ja was named best actress for her role in "Mother" while Jennifer Lawrence received runner-up for "Winter's Bone," an indie which is adapted from Daniel Woodrell's 2006 novel and winner of the 2010 Sundance Grand Jury Prize.

"Carlos" was chosen as foreign language film of the year. South Korean film "Mother" was runner-up.

"Toy Story 3" was LAFCA's choice for best animation. "The Illusionist" was runner-up in the category.

"Last Train Home," directed by Chinese filmmaker Lixin Fan, was named as best documentary/non-fiction film. The film depicts China's rise to economic powerhouse through the story of a couple who move away from their rural village to earn money in a big city factory, leaving behind their two children who are being cared by their grandmother.

The 36th annual LAFCA award ceremony will be held Jan. 15. Academy award-nominated director, screenwriter and actor Paul Mazursky will receive the 2010 Career Achievement Award.
