娱乐英语新闻:Creator of popular comic books honored on Hollywood Walk of Fame

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- A man who has published more than two billion copies of comic books and created Spider Man, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men and other Marvel Comics' characters, was honored with a dedication of a star on the famed Hollywood Walk of Fame Tuesday.

Stan Lee, chairman emeritus of Marvel Comics, received the 2,428th star at a ceremony held on the fabled sidewalk in front of the Live Nation Building on Hollywood Boulevard.

The founder of POW! Entertainment, a media production company, Lee has exerted more influence over the comic book industry than anyone in history,creating or co-creating 90 percent of Marvel Comics' characters which include, among others, The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Daredevil, The Avengers, Silver Surfer and Dr. Strange.

His comic books have been sold in 75 countries and in 25 languages. His characters have been featured in 24 animated television series and several live-action movies.

Born on Dec. 28, 1922 in New York City, Lee began his career as an assistant at Timely Comics in 1939. His first work was a text filler for Captain America No. 3, published in 1941.

In 1972, Lee became the publisher of Marvel Comics, and five years later, he introduced Spider-Man strip that went on to become the most successful of all syndicated adventure strips, making it the longest running of all Super Hero strips.

A recipient of many awards including being inducted into the Harvey Awards' Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1995, Lee is developing new characters, comic books, movies and television projects for POW! Entertainment.
