BEIJING, April 19 (Xinhuanet) -- The fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise will hit Chinese theaters on May 20, as part of a coordinated global premiere of the latest installment of the hugely popular Walt Disney series.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides will see the return of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. Original baddie Geoffrey Rush also returns, in addition to fresh faces Penelope Cruz, who plays a beautiful trickster that becomes entangled in a romance with Captain Jack, and Ian McShane, a fearsome new villain.

The "Pirates" name has proven itself one of the most lucrative film franchises of the 21st century, taking in a combined total of more than 2.6 billion U.S. dollars in box office returns. The latest film will be the first to be screened in 3D and IMAX-3D.
