娱乐英语新闻:Netflix to stream Miramax titles in multi-year tie-up

LOS ANGELES, May 16 (Xinhua) -- The Netflix members in the United States will be able to watch hundreds of movies produced by Miramax beginning in June, as the two companies have agreed on a multi-year partnership, it was announced on Monday.

As part of the tie-up, the Netflix library gains a variety of films which collectively earned 284 Academy Award nominations, across 83 films, with 68 wins, including Best Picture winners "The English Patien" and "Shakespeare in Love."

"From day one, we've been very clear about the importance of digital and our desire to respond to the significant pent-up demand for our films -- delivering to consumers whenever and wherever they want," said Miramax CEO Mike Lang. "This agreement is an important first step in our digital strategy."

Netflix Inc., a world leading Internet subscription service for enjoying movies and TV shows which boasts more than 23 million members in the United States and Canada, will beam the movies on multiple platform, including TV, tablets, computer and mobile phones.

It is the first time Miramax titles have become available through a digital subscription service, both the companies said.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Miramax, a major Hollywood firm which is famous for distributing a number of Academy Award-winning independent films and foreign titles, has entered licensing talks with various digital premium services, including Netflix, Amazon, Google, and Hulu, for digital distribution of the former company's film library since early this year.
