娱乐英语新闻:"Modern Family" star Ed O'Neill receives star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Ed O'Neill, the Emmy-nominated star who stars in ABC hit television series "Modern Family," was inducted into a starry array of prominent entertainers at an event held Tuesday, receiving the 2,446th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

O'Neill, 65, was joined by Katey Sagal, who portrayed his obnoxious wife, Peg, on Fox comedy "Married ... With Children," and Sofia Vergara, who portrays his wife, Gloria, on his current series, "Modern Family," for the late-morning ceremony.

"Modern Family" co-creator and executive producer Steve Levitan was also on hand to mark the occasion where the actor received his sidewalk honor.

O'Neill almost turned down the star because he deemed the idea as "kind of weird," he told his hometown newspaper "The Vindicator " in a recent interview. However, his daughter helped him see it as a point of pride.

"I was actually very humbled, once I got over the initial shock and realized it's something to be proud of," he said.

In a coincidence, O'Neill's star was placed outside a shoe store on Hollywood Boulevard. He played Al Bundy, a harried shoe salesman on "Married ... With Children" which aired on Fox during 1987-97 seasons.

The actor received an Emmy Award nomination last month for best supporting actor for his role on "Modern Family."

His other television credits include the 2001 police drama "Big Apple" and the 2003 remake of "Dragnet." He also appeared in films including "The Bone Collector" and the "Wayne's World" franchise.
