娱乐英语新闻:"Downton Abbey," "Mildred Pierce" lead field in television for Gloden Globes

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- "Downtown Abbey," a British series about an estate in Yorkshire during the late Edwardian era and the World War I, as well as HBO's "Mildren Pierce," led a field for honors in small screen when the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced its picks for one of the most prestigious honors in the industry at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles Thursday morning.

The two popular television series have garnered four nominations each when the group announced its choices in an early- morning ceremony.

Nominees for best television drama series include "American Horror Story," "Boardwalk Empire," "Boss," "Game of Thrones" and " Homeland." Contenders for best comedy series were "Enlightened," " Episodes," "Glee," "Modern Family" and "New Girl."

Three time Golden Globe winner Alex Baldwin reaped his ninth career nominations from the voters when he got a nod for best actor in a comedy series for "30 Rock." Other nominees in the category include David Duchovny of "Californication"; Johnny Galecki of "The Big Bang Theory"; Thomas Jane of "Hung" and Matt LeBlanc of "Episodes."

"Boardwalk Empire" star Steve Buscemi earned a nod for best actor in a drama series, where he will compete with Bryan Cranston for "Breaking Bad," Kelsey Grammer for "Boss," Damian Lewis for " Homeland" and Jeremy Irons for "The Borgias."

Julianna Margulies, who has been a constant Golden Globe favorite, was nominated for best actress in a drama for "The Good Wife," as were Mireille Enos for "The Killing," Callie Thorne for "Necessary Roughness," Claire Danes for "Homeland" and Madeleine Stowe for "Revenge."

Tina Fey, Baldwin's co-star on "30 Rock," was recognized for best actress in a comedy along with Laura Dern for "Enlightened," Zooey Deschanel for "New Girl," Laura Linney for "The Big C" and Amy Poehler for "Parks and Recreation."

The 69th Golden Globes ceremony will be held Jan. 15 at the Beverly Hilton. Ricky Gervais will host the event for the third consecutive year.
