娱乐英语新闻:Lady Gaga leads Twitter with 20 million followers

BEIJING, March 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Mother Monster Lady Gaga became the first person to attract more than 20 million followers on Twitter, after joining the social networking site for only four years, according to media reports.

Gaga takes a comfortable lead in the Twitter with the next most followed account being Justin Bieber, who still only has 18 million followers.

The other three on top five are Katy Perry with 15.7 million followers, Shakira with 14.5 million and Rihanna with 14.5 million.

U.S. President Barack Obama ranks at the eighth place with 12.8 million followers.

Gaga just joined the social networking device on March 26, 2008, to promote her single "Just Dance". But she soon became the reigning queen of Twitter in 2010 when she surpassed Britney Spears, the former record holder, by having 5.6 million followers.

Like many celebrities, Gaga has used Twitter to make announcements about her career, share some private photos as well as respond to cirticism to maintain a closer relationship with her "little monsters", as she calls her fans
