LOS ANGELES, April 24 (Xinhua) -- John Cusack got an opportune gift three days before his latest film "The Raven" hits the screen as he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday.

The actor, who shed 25 pounds (11.3 kg) for his new role as 19th century U.S. writer Edgar Allen Poe for "The Raven," was joined by his sister Joan Cusack, friend Jack Black and producer/ director Joe Roth for a ceremony during which he received the 2, 469th star, culminating his nearly three decades career of more than 50 films.

Born to actor Dick Cusack, Cusack became popular in the mid- 1980s after appearing in a number of teen movies such as "Better Off Dead," "The Sure Thing," "One Crazy Summer" and "Sixteen Candles." He also starred in Woody Allen's films including " Shadows and Fog" and "Bullets over Broadway" as well as Roland Emmerich's disaster film "2012."

Cusack, 45, was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award with his castmates for 1999 black comedy film "Being John Malkovich." In 2000, he received a nod for Golden Globe award for best actor in a comedy or musical for playing lead role in comedy-drama film "High Fidelity."

"The Raven," which centers on Poe's last days during which the poet helped to solve a series of murders inspired by his own stories, opens in North America theaters on Friday.
