LOS ANGELES, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Hal David, best known for writing a number of popular songs with composer Burt Bacharach, died from complications of a stroke in Los Angeles Saturday at the age of 91.
The legendary songwriter passed away at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He suffered a stroke again on Tuesday after he was first hit by the ailment in March, his wife Eunice told local media.
Along with Bacharach, the lyric writer duo won an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1970 for "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" from the western film "Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," and a Grammy for the cast album of the 1969 Broadway musical "Promises, Promises." In the late 1950s, David wrote numerous hits with Bacharach that contributed to the U.S. popular culture.
In May, David and Bacharach were honored with the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from the Library of Congress at a ceremony held in Washington, D.C.
