娱乐英语新闻:U.S. actress fails again to yank anti-Muslim trailer from YouTube
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- An American actress who claimed she was duped into acting in the anti-Muslim flick "Innocence of Muslims" and has insisted to have a trailer yanked from YouTube, lost her bid again, as a federal judge denied her request on Thursday.
U.S. District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald, in a written order, denied Cindy Lee Garcia's request for a temporary restraining order against Google, who owns the video sharing portal YouTube on which the controversial 14-minute clip was posted, and Mark Basseley Youssef who produced the piece. Fitzgerald set a further motions hearing for Nov. 19.
On Sept. 20, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Luis Lanvin ruled that Cindy Lee Garcia failed to show that she would likely prevail on the merits of her request, despite the actress's claim that she was tricked into appearing in the inflammatory film, according to the Courthouse News.
The YouTube trailer, parodying Muslim Prophet Muhammad, has triggered violent anti-American riots and protests in more than 20 countries, and has led to at least 28 deaths, including the killing of U.S. ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens.
Garcia, 55, accused Youssef -- who previously used name Nakoula Basseley Nakoula -- of misrepresenting the movie at casting and during filming. Calling the film "vile and reprehensible," Garcia said her voice had been dubbed in Arabic, making her out to be a religious bigot.
According to Garcia, Youssef violated her copyright over her performance in the film. She believed the film was an historical adventure titled "Desert Warrior" until Youssef posted the film on YouTube.
Garcia never signed a model release transferring her intellectual property rights to Youssef or any production company, court papers show.
The film, as well as the Middle Eastern violence that erupted after its release, stands to be a hot topic during Monday night's Presidential debate which deals with foreign policy.
