娱乐英语新闻:"Twilight" finale dominates Thanksgiving weekend for two-week reign
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Thanksgiving weekend in North America was proven to be a high time for a bumper harvest, as a trio of popular holdovers headed by "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" helped boost the revenue during one of the most profitable period of the year.
The "Twilight Saga" finale turned out to be a formidable holdover, as it is estimated to rake in 43.1 million dollars in ticket sales during the four-day holiday, claiming the top stop for the second straight weekend. The teen vampire-and-werewolf romance has grossed 227 million dollars in the United States and Canada over 10 days in exhibition.
"Skyfall," the 23rd installment of the 50-year James Bond franchise, was No. 2 with 36 million dollars in box office receipts. The spy actioner has rolled up 221.7 million dollars over three weeks.
"Lincoln," the Steven Spielberg biopic dealing with the final four months of the 16th U.S. president, was No. 3 with a 25 million dollar weekend. The Daniel Day-Lewis vehicle is on track for a 62.1 million dollar three-week gross.
A pair of new films made their debuts in North America this weekend but have failed to outperform the holdovers.
"Rise Of The Guardians" debuted in No. 4 for a 24 million dollar gate, against a 40 million dollar opening projected by analysts. "Life Of Pi" was fifth for a 22 million dollar weekend.
Rounding out the 10 most popular films in the U.S. and Canada this weekend were "Wreck-It Ralph" (USD 16.8 million), "Red Dawn" (debuting with USD 14.6 million), "Flight" (USD 8.6 million), " Silver Linings Playbook" (USD 4.6 million), and "Argo" (USD 3.9 million).
