LOS ANGELES, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- "Wreck-It Ralph" finished as the biggest winner at this year's Annie Awards, taking home five honors including best animated feature at the animation industry's top awards event.
The Walt Disney Animation Studios' 3-D family film won praises from voters of the International Animated Film Society and ASIFA-Hollywood, and also acquired best directing for Rich Moore and screenplay, music and voice acting.
The family comedy about an arcade game villain who rebels against his role and dreams of becoming a hero, which received 10 nominations, had tied for the lead with "Rise of the Guardians" and "Brave" going into the awards ceremony held at UCLA's Royce Hall on Saturday night.
It also beat out other Oscar hopefuls "Frankenweenie," "ParaNorman" and "The Pirates! Band of Misfits," as well as the year's other top animated films "Hotel Transylvania" and "The Rabbi's Cat" in the process.
However, "ParaNorman" and "Brave" have succeeded in not walking home empty-handed. "ParaNorman" won for character animation and character design, while the latter for production design and editorial.
The live-action films of "The Avengers" and "Life of Pi" won awards for their animated elements, including the tiger Richard Parker in "Pi," while "Rise of the Guardians" was named for its effects and storyboarding.
Meanwhile, Oscar Gillo, Terry Gilliam and Mark Henn received Winsor McCay Awards honoring their career contributions to the art of animation. Howard Green won the June Foray Award for his charitable impact on the art and industry of animation, while Toon Boom Animation Pipeline garnered the Ub Iwerks Award honoring technical achievements that had a significant impact on the industry.
