LOS ANGELES, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Jimmy Fallon will take over the hosting duty from Jay Leno next spring, ending weeks of speculations, the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) announced Wednesday.

The late night program "The Tonight Show" will also get a new executive producer, Lorne Michaels, who helmed "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," said NBC, an American commercial broadcasting television network. The taping of the show will also be relocated from Burbank, California, to New York where "Saturday Night Live" is shot.

Fallon will make a debut at the conclusion of the network's coverage of the 2014 Winter Olympics from Sochi, Russia, The New York Times reported on its website.

Leno, one of America's most watched late-night television talk show anchors who has hosted the franchise since 1992, with only a brief interruption when Conan O'Brien took over, has been a major force in keeping the high ratings with key demographics.

Speculations have been afoot in recent weeks as NBC is reported to replace Leno with a new host. Fallon, when installed on the duty, will be the show's sixth host while NBC will be celebrating its 60th anniversary of founding.

In 2009, NBC replaced Leno with Conan O'Brien, which resulted in declining ratings and a tumultuous controversy. Leno was reinstated only eight months later while O'Brien quit as the show' s host.
