娱乐英语新闻:"The Avengers," "Breaking Bad" win big at Saturn Awards

LOS ANGELES, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Marvel's superhero tentpole "The Avengers" and AMC drama "Breaking Bad" dominated the 39th annual Saturn Awards ceremony Wednesday night in Burbank, California.

"The Avengers" walked away with four honors from the Castaway restaurant, where the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films handed out statuettes honoring the best films in those genres.

The film was honored as the top science fiction film and it also picked up gongs for best director (Joss Whedon), best supporting actor (Clark Gregg) and best special effects.

"Life of Pi," which earned eight nominations, was named best fantasy film. "The Cabin in the Woods" was recognized as best horror/thriller. "Skyfall," the 23rd installment of the James Bond franchise, prevailed as best action/adventure.

Matthew McConaughey was honored as best actor for "Killer Joe," while Jennifer Lawrence of "The Hunger Games" and Anne Hathaway of "The Dark Knight Rises" walked home with best actress and best supporting actress, respectively.

"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," which had led the field with nine nominations, earned only one honor, best production design.

"Frankenweenie" was honored as best animated film and best music.

On television, "Breaking Bad" collected three honors, including best presentation on television, best actor for Bryan Cranston and best supporting actor for Jonathan Banks.

Writer Richard Matheson was honored posthumously with the 2013 Visionary Award, one of four special achievement awards the Academy gave out during the event.

The man behind such iconic films as "I Am Legend," "The Incredible Shrinking Man" and episodes of the television series "The Twilight Zone" died Sunday at 87.
