娱乐英语新闻:"Police Story 2013" remains atop China's film charts

BEIJING, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- "Police Story 2013," a police action thriller from Jackie Chan, remained top of China's box office charts in the week ending on Jan. 5, grossing 168 million yuan (27.77 million U.S. dollars), according to a film industry weekly.

The film, which stars Jackie Chan as a Chinese police officer caught in the machinations of a criminal gang, has taken in 456 million yuan since it hit Chinese theatres on Dec. 24, China Film News reported on Tuesday.

"Personal Tailor," the latest comedy from popular director Feng Xiaogang, was second, raking in 116 million yuan in the week, with a total box office of 666 million yuan since its debut on Dec. 19.

"Up in the Wind," a film that tells a journey to find happiness in Nepal, ranked in third and roped in 60 million yuan in ticket sales, with an accumulative revenue of 62.8 million yuan since its debut on Dec. 29.

In the week from Dec. 30 to Jan. 5, some 14.23 million people visited cinemas nationwide, down 8.2 percent year on year, while the weekly box office saw a 8.7-percent drop, with a total of 500 million yuan.
