娱乐英语新闻:Sri Lankan designers showcase talent in resort wear collection

NEGOMBO, Sri Lanka, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- The third edition of the HSBC Colombo Fashion Week Resort Show concluded Saturday at the resort town of Negombo, just outside the capital Colombo, as Sri Lankan designers, both professional and amateur, took part in what is one of Asia's highly rated events.

The Colombo Fashion Week (CFW) has proved to be the backbone of the Sri Lankan fashion design industry, celebrating its 11th year with the launch of its third annual show this year focusing on a collection of resort wear outfits.

Commenting of CFW's vision behind the show, Ajai V Singh, president of Colombo Fashion Week, said that the resort wear is a growing category around the world, and it's new and he personally feels Sri Lanka is very well positioned to take a lead to create a regional resort wear pivot. "We are very proud of that and excited about the new opportunities we have been able to create for Sri Lankan designers. At CFW, we are determined to take the Sri Lankan fashion industry from strength to strength,"Singh said ahead of the four-day event which concluded Saturday.

The event saw models from Sri Lanka and the region taking the catwalk and displaying some stunning resort wear outfits designed by Sri Lankan designers and those from the region.

New items featured at the show included a series of "Bright Sparks" shows which were launched earlier this year with talented young undergraduates from a variety of Sri Lanka's leading fashion institutes.

A series of "pop up shops" were also featured prominently at the show for the first time this year to create a sale point for items showcased at the event. The show ended with all the glitz and glamour of its legendary after parties.
