娱乐英语新闻:"Ida" from Poland wins Oscar award for best foreign language film
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- "Ida," a Polish film directed by Pawel Pawlikowski, won the Oscar award for best foreign language film on Sunday night at the 87th annual Academy Awards ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
The film was about a young novitiate nun in the 1960s in Poland who is on the verge of taking her vows when she discovers a dark family secret dating back to the years of the Nazi occupation.
In Oscar's history, 10 Polish films have been nominated for the best foreign-language film award, but "Ida" is the first one to win out.
The first Polish nomination was in 1963 for Roman Polanski's "Knife in the Water," and the most recent one before this year was in 2011 for Agnieszka Holland's "In Darkness."
