LOS ANGELES, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Universal's 3D film "Jurassic World" crossed the half-billion dollar mark in ticket sales in North America this weekend, and dominated the box office returns for a third straight week.

The Jurassic rerun edged out Disney's animation film "Inside Out" for the first place spot this weekend: 54.2 million U.S. dollars to 52.1 million dollars, according to the film industry analysis firm Rentrak.

"Jurassic World" is estimated to surpass the 500 million dollars mark on Sunday and has grossed 500.1 million dollars in 17 days, becoming the fastest film that has made that in such a short period of time. Its worldwide total is 1.1 billion dollars. The previous record holder, "The Avengers," pulled it off in 23 days.

Pixar Studios "Inside Out" still kept in the second place with 52.1 million dollars, declining 42.4 percent compared with the first weekend. It has grossed 184.9 million dollars within ten days.

Seth MacFarlane's raunchy R-rated comedy "Ted 2" debuted in third place at 3,442 locations in United States and Canada with 33 million dollars in ticket sales. The audience breakdown for "Ted 2 " skewed towards male moviegoers (59 percent) and slightly towards moviegoers 25 years and older (51 percent). "Ted 2" received a "B+ " rating from first-night moviegoers on CinemaScore and 47 percent positive rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

Warner Bros' PTSD dog movie "Max" opened at 2,855 locations with an estimated fourth place take of 12.2 million dollars. "Max" received a strong "A" rating on CinemaScore and a so-so 38 percent approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes.

Rounding out the 10 top movies this weekend in the United States and Canada were "Spy" (7.8 million dollars), "San Andreas" (5.3 million), "Dope" (2.8 million), "Insidious Chapter 3" (2 million), "Mad Max: Fury Road" (1.7 million) and "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" (1.6 million).
