娱乐英语新闻:Sci-fi adventure movie "Jurassic World" continues to dominate North American box office

LOS ANGELES, July 5 (Xinhua) -- American science fiction adventure film "Jurassic World" outperformed "Inside Out" and other two newly released movies -- "Terminator Genisys" and "Magic Mike XXL" -- to be the number one for the fourth straight week at the box office in North America.

"Jurassic World," the 3D dinosaur film was on track to sell 30. 9 million U.S. dollars in tickets this weekend, a decline of 43 percent from last weekend's performance, on its way soaring to nearly 558.2 million dollars in ticket sales in North America, according to box office tracker Rentrak.

That makes it the fourth-biggest blockbuster in Hollywood history. "Jurassic World" has grossed around 1.4 billion dollars worldwide.

"Jurassic World" is the first film since "Furious 7" to claim the number one spot in the U.S. and Canada for four straight weeks. Both of them are distributed by Universal Pictures.

Disney/Pixar's "Inside Out" was overshadowed by "Jurassic World " this summer, but it still enjoyed a strong run. It was ranked the second place with an estimated 30.1 million dollars in tickets revenue this weekend, for a three-week North American tally of 246. 2 million dollars.

"Terminator Genisys," starring the former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, debuted Wednesday in the United States and stood at the third place with an estimated 28.7 million dollars in tickets sales earnings. Directed by Alan Taylor, "Terminator Genisys" is the fifth installment in the franchise. It has grossed 44.2 million dollars through five days of release. As one of the most popular sci-fi films, the "Terminator" films have grossed more than 1.4 billion dollars at the worldwide box office since the original film opened in 1984 by James Cameron.

Globally, "Terminator Genisys" made 85.5 million dollars in the film markets outside North America, bringing its global total to 129.6 million dollars to date. The film received a "B+" from first- night moviegoers on CinemaScore but a poor 27 percent approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

Warner's "Magic Mike XXL" opened with 12 million dollars in estimated tickets sales, which was ranked the fourth. It won an "A- " from audience and 63 percent positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience breakdown for "Magic Mike XXL" skewed towards moviegoers over the age of 25 (73 percent) and extremely towards female moviegoers (96 percent).

Rounding out the rest of the 10 most-popular movies this week were "Ted 2" (11 million dollars), "Max" (7 million), "Spy" (5.5 million), "San Andreas" (3 million), "Me And Earl And The Dying Girl" (1.3 million) and "Dope" (1 million).
