娱乐英语新闻:"Trumbo" leads U.S. Screen Actors Guild Award nods
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- "Trumbo," a biopic about the 1947 Hollywood blacklist, led the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award nominations on Wednesday with three nods, including in the accolade's top prize for best ensemble cast.
In television categories, "Game of Thrones," "Homeland" and "House of Cards" each earned three nominations of the SAG Awards, one of the major awards events in Hollywood since 1995.
Idris Elba and Helen Mirren both earned three nominations, with Elba straddling film and television categories for his performances as a West African mercenary who leads a group of boy soldiers in "Beasts of No Nation" and as a homicide detective in the miniseries "Luther," respectively.
Mirren was nominated for her lead role in "Woman in Gold," for her supporting role in "Trumbo" and as part of the cast of that film.
Mirren's fellow actress nominees for leading roles are Cate Blanchett for "Carol"; first-time nominee Brie Larson, for her portrayal of a woman held captive with her five-year-old son in "Room"; Saoirse Ronan for "Brooklyn"; and comedian and first-time nominee Sarah Silverman for "I Smile Back.
Leonardo DiCaprio got a best actor nomination for his performance in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's "The Revenant."
He will be competing with Michael Fassbender, who portrayed the Apple founder in "Steve Jobs"; Eddie Redmayne for his cross-dressing role in "The Danish Girl"; Bryan Cranston for "Trumbo"; and Johnny Depp as gangster-fugitive in "Black Mass."
Supporting actor nominations went to Christian Bale for his work in "The Big Short," which tells the tale of a big bet against the housing market during the 2008 financial crisis; Idris Elba for "Beasts of No Nation," Mark Rylance for "Bridge of Spies"; Michael Shannon for "99 Homes"; and nine-year-old Jacob Tremblay for his portrayal of the boy held captive with his mother in "Room."
The supporting actress competition includes first-time nominees Rooney Mara for "Carol," Alicia Vikander for "The Danish Girl," Rachel McAdams for "Spotlight", Kate Winslet for "Steve Jobs," along with Helen Mirren.
In the television competition, the casts of "The Big Bang Theory," "Key & Peele," "Modern Family," "Orange Is the New Black," "Transparent" and "Veep" were nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series. There are six nominees due to a tie.
Among drama series, the ensemble casts of "Downton Abbey," "Game of Thrones," "Homeland," "House of Cards" and "Mad Men" were nominated.
The nominees in either film or television category are chosen by 2,200 randomly selected SAG-AFTRA members from across the United States in each panels.
Then more than 100,000 active members of SAG-AFTRA will vote for the final award winner. The 22nd Annual SAG Awards presenting ceremony will be held at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles on Jan. 30, 2016.
