娱乐英语新闻:Beatles drummer's childhood home sold for 99,000 USD
LONDON, March 25 (Xinhua) -- The house where Ringo Starr, the Beatles' drummer, lived until he established fame as a pop star was sold in Liverpool on Thursday night for just over 99,000 U.S. dollars, a local social housing group said.
The two-bedroom house went under the hammer for more than 21,000 dollars above its estimated sale price.
The small brick-built terrace house, located at Admiral Grove, Liverpool, was put up for sale after long-term tenant Margaret Gorse passed away.
It was at the house where Starr, real name Richard Starkey, learned to play the drums and celebrated his 21st birthday.
The auction, held by local social housing group Plus Dane, took place at the world famous Cavern Club where the Beatles shot to fame in the early 1960s.
Plus Dane inserted a clause in the sale conditions to prevent the house from ever being turned into a museum or a souvenir shop.
The new owner is Beatles' fan Jackie Holmes, who is said to have previously bought properties connected with John Lennon and George Harrison, two other members of the Beatles.
