6. The Chinese side reaffirmed its support for the African integration process and respect for the independent decisions made by African countries on ways to achieve integration. China will further enhance its coordination and cooperation with African Regional Economic Communities (RECs) on major international and regional issues, and continue to actively support the capacity- building of the AU and other regional organizations, the implementation of the New Partnership for Africa's Development ( NEPAD) and sub-regional economic integration.

The Chinese side welcomes the adoption of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa and continues to support infrastructure development in Africa as a priority of China-Africa cooperation. China is ready to provide support within its capacity to the construction of major infrastructure projects in Africa to promote African social and economic development and regional integration.

7. The Chinese side hailed African countries' efforts to attain the MDGs, especially their notable progress in making primary education universal and improving the health of children and women. At the same time, China noted the enormous challenges Africa faced in achieving the MDGs on schedule, challenges that were further compounded by the international financial crisis, the adverse effects of climate change and the lack of adequate resources, especially those committed by developed countries, to meet these challenges. China called upon the international community, developed countries in particular, to promptly honor their commitments on assistance and debt reduction and provide more financial and technological support to help African countries attain the MDGs at an early date.

8. The two sides recognized the positive role of China-Africa cooperation on trade, assistance and investment through FOCAC and other channels in advancing economic and social development of both sides and in implementing the MDGs. In its cooperation with the African countries, the Chinese side will continue to follow the principles of mutual benefit and sustainable development, give priority to raising the value added of African products, further open its market to African products, and further improve the trade mix for the balanced development of China-Africa trade. The two sides underscored the importance of refocusing global efforts on concluding the WTO Doha Round in a fair and balanced manner, in which development lies at its core, as an additional channel for African countries to create wealth and reduce poverty.

The two sides noted with appreciation the increase in the flow of Chinese tourism, and the African side called for more Chinese investments in the tourism sector, which is an effective means of promoting economic growth in Africa and deepening cultural ties between Africa and China.
