BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Tuesday attended a ceremony commemorating the birth centennial of late scientist Qian Weichang, urging the nation to follow his example to reinvigorate China.
Qian, who died at the age of 98 in 2010 in Shanghai, was one of the founders of China's modern mechanics as well as a noted educationist and social activist, said Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
A close friend of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Qian was also vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and the honorary chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League, according to Jia.
Qian's life was all about patriotism, a struggle for science and selfless contribution to the nation, which will always be engraved on the mind of the people, said Jia.
The political advisor urged people of all ethnic groups to inherit and carry forward Qian's spirits and unite around the CPC central committee with comrade Hu Jintao as the general secretary to make greater efforts for the rejuvenation of the nation.
