国内英语新闻:Chinese political advisors pool wisdom for poverty relief
BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese political advisors gathered in Beijing on Monday to offer suggestions for poverty alleviation in areas of deep poverty.
Wang Yang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the 13th National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended the opening of the second meeting of the Standing Committee of the 13th CPPCC National Committee.
To win the three-year battle against poverty, the plans made by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council should be upheld and the basic policy of targeted poverty reduction and alleviation measures should be implemented, said Chinese Vice Premier Hu Chunhua, who was invited to attend the meeting and delivered a report.
Solid efforts are needed to implement major measures including resettlement of poor people living in uninhabitable areas and strengthening collaboration on poverty alleviation between the eastern and western regions, Hu said.
Areas of deep poverty should be provided with focused assistance, including growing fiscal, financial, and land policy support, and improved infrastructure and public services, Hu said.
Zhang Qingli, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the opening of the three-day meeting.
