国内英语新闻:Interview: Albanian expert highlights synergy in China-CEEC cooperation
TIRANA, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Synergy appears to be the keyword in the virtual summit of China and Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC), as the cooperation within the mechanism "is giving rise to a whole that is greater than the simple sum of its components," said an Albanian researcher.
While delivering a keynote speech at the China-CEEC Summit via video link on Tuesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping lauded China-CEEC cooperation, saying that "17 plus 1 could make more than 18."
"This declaration is auspicious for the countries of the platform as it is clear that a truly bright and promising future lies ahead for this cooperation," said Marsela Musabelliu, executive director of the Albanian Institute for Globalization Studies.
During his speech, Xi said that all countries involved, regardless of their size, are equal partners in a cooperation mechanism featuring extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits.
The perception of the participants in having an equal footing into the mechanism is "welcomed and appreciated," Musabelliu said.
Making decisions through consultation, one of the principles developed in China-CEEC cooperation, "embodies the very spirit of multilateralism," for which China is a firm advocate in its foreign policy endeavor, the Albanian researcher said.
Meanwhile, another principle of delivering benefits to all cooperation partners is "the basis for win-win cooperation, a pillar of international relations that China has promoted constantly," she said.
Musabelliu also elaborated on the significance of China-CEEC cooperation for Albania.
Noting the digital economy is what kept many economies afloat during the COVID-19 lockdowns and that its importance was stressed at the summit, the expert said "currently it is not just an advancement but a necessity."
According to Musabelliu, e-commerce increased in Albania last year, however its structural flaws were evident in many areas.
Thus, increased consultation in the field with other members of the cooperation mechanism "can only benefit its end customers," she said.
Also, more China-CEEC customs cooperation comes as "an immense facilitation" for Albanian businesses willing to work in China and vice versa, as trade has flourished between China and Albania, Musabelliu said.
China-CEEC cooperation, she noted, also provides "a unique opportunity" for many Albanian local producers to reach the huge Chinese market.
Musabelliu said that the focus on green development and creating momentum for future cooperation in clean energy is "a pledge all responsible countries are willing to make and observe."
This summit paves the way for "a post-pandemic world where China and the CEEC can operate closely for a better future, a future where multilateralism prevails," she added.
