体坛英语新闻:Arsenal suffer bitter draw at Sunderland
LONDON, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Arsenal conceded a last minute goal at Sunderland on Saturday, failing to reach the top position of the Premier League standings after the 1-1 draw.
The Gunners were fortunate to made breakthrough in the 13th minute when captain Cesc Fabregas blocked Anton Ferdinand's clearance into net. However, the 23-year-old playmaker from Spain had to be replaced by Tomas Rosicky on the half hour mark as he showed sign of struggling with his hamstring.
The hosts fought hard since the beginning but could make few threat even after Arsenal midfielder Alex Song was sent off in the 55th minute with two bookings. They even conceded a penalty 20 minutes later when Ahmed Elmohamady challenged Frenchman Samir Nasri unfairly. But Rosicky shot the spotkick wide the right post.
With seconds remaining, Darren Bent stroke in close range in the 95th minute, earning Sunderland an unbelievable tie against the London side.
Tottenham Spurs came from behind to beat Wolverhampton 3-1 with three second-half goals at home.
Rafael van der Vaart sent a penalty home after 77 minutes before substitute Roman Pavlyuchenko side-footed in to put Spurs ahead. Alan Hutton added a third in the injury time.
The matches between Aston Villa and Bolton, Blackburn and Fulham as well as Stoke and West Ham all finished 1-1 while Everton was defeated 1-0 by visitors Newcastle. West Brom sent off Birmingham with a 3-1 victory.
