体坛英语新闻:Chinese weightlifters dominant at opening day of World Championships
PARIS, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese weightlifters dominated the first day's competition of the World Championships as they made a clean sweep of all the six golds at stake on Saturday.
Eighteen-year old Tian Yuan won the snatch, clean-and-jerk and overall golds in the women's 48-kg competition, before Wu Jingbiao pulled off the same feat in the men's 56-kg contention.
Tian turned out so strong for her opponents that she secured the snatch and clean-and-jerk golds, and the overall one as a result, on her first attempts. h Then she succeeded in her remaining four attempts to win the snatch gold with a lift of 90 kg, the clean-and-jerk one with 117 kg and the overall with 207 kg.
Wu Jingbiao beat his teammate Zhao Chaojun to win the men's 56-kg snatch gold with a lift of 133 kg, the clean-and-jerk gold with 159 kg and the overall with 292 kg.
"I have been improving every year," Wu said. "In the 2009 World Championships, I won one gold, then last year, I won two. Now, I won three."
"But I crave for only one gold, the next year's Olympic gold," he said.
