体坛英语新闻：Real midfielder Khedira to be sidelined for over a month

MADRID, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid could be without midfielder Sami Khedira for over a month due to a seriously twisted ankle after he underwent tests on Wednesday.

Khedira had to leave the pitch of his side's 1-0 win in Malaga on Tuesday night after 43 minutes after falling badly following a shot at goal.

The tests have confirmed that he suffered a serious strain on the external ligament of his left ankle. The club have yet to confirm the time Khedira will be out, but the extent of the injury means he will at least miss his side's league matches against Mallorca and Athletic Madrid and the two legs of the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey in which his side will almost certainly meet bitter rivals FA Barcelona.

Khedira's injury could mean that coach Jose Mourinho decides against allowing players such as Esteban Granero and Kaka to leave Real Madrid during the January transfer window.
