体坛英语新闻：Shanxi snaps Guangdong's season-longest winning streak

TAIYUAN, Northwest China, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Guangdong Hongyuan's bid for 14th straight victory was spoiled on Sunday as it lost 128-121 away to Shanxi Zhongyu in the 33nd round of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league.

Guangdong and the Beijing Ducks are tied for this season's longest winning streak at 13 consecutive games.

Marcus Williams scored a game-high 40 points and posed great threat to Guangdong in the paint by making 20 of 22 free throws, nearly as many as that of the whole away team. Charles Gaines had a double-double with 32 points and 14 rebounds.

Zhu Fangyu buried nine of 13 three-pointers and notched 19 of his 38 points in the first quarter as Guangdong usurped a 32-31 lead before Shanxi levelled it on 60-all at the break.

A 13-2 third period early surge once gave the hosts a 13-point lead before former Houston Rockets star Aaron Brooks collected 7 points in a run for Guangdong to make it even again.

While Guangdong's players got cold hand from downtown suddenly in the final quarter while Shanxi stretched the advantage to double-digit by fast break to secure the victory.

Xinjiang Guanghui held off a late comeback from Dongguan Marco Polo by beating it 97-89 to book a playoff berth with one game left in the regular season.

Going up at 48-44 at halftime, Xinjiang pulled away to lead as many as 20 points in the fourth period before Dongguan answered with a 12-0 run to cut the deficit to single digit.

Xinjiang center Tang Zhengdong returned to form with 26 points and 11 rebounds as Dongguan power forward Ronald Randolph grabbed 33 points and 16 rebounds and Joshua Akognon added 24.

In Sunday's other games, Qingdao Doublestars beat Shandong Gold 105-89, Bayi Fubang beat Liaoning Hengye 99-87, Foshan Long Lions beat Tianjin Ronggang 116-115, Jinlin Northeast Tigers beat Zhejiang Chouzhou 106-96, Beijing Ducks beat Shanghai Sharks 93-78, Jiangsu Dragons beat Zhejiang Guangsha 110-107.
